ALBANY–Marc Gronich has joined the staff of The Jewish World. He will work on an interim basis, on a variety of projects, and reporting, according to Laurie Clevenson, editor.
Gronich has more than 20 years experience in journalism, having founded and reported for Statewide News Service, serving more than 50 radio stations across the state with customized news reports from the Capitol. He has also reported for the now-defunct Empire Radio Network and as a news editor for the Latham-based Water Technology Magazine.
In the mid-’90s Gronich taught Sunday school for one year at Berith Sholom in Troy, worked at the Albany Jewish Community Center as the membership and marketing director and helped raise money for congregations in Albany. Gronich has also assisted in fund-raising to provide support for non-profit charities in the mid-Hudson Valley and this region.
In the political arena, Gronich has worked for Republican, Democratic and Independence party officials and did a stint as executive director for a county political organization. He has also managed two mayoral campaigns and two races for the State Senate.
Ten years ago Gronich, with a business partner, helped redistrict seven counties in N.Y.S. Most recently he has been a public relations specialist for the Pharmacists Society of the State of New York and was the development director for the Yom Yerushalayim, Jerusalem Day, commemoration, an event hosted by the Albany-based Jewish Educational Resources of New York last May.
Gronich is a dual member of the Knights of Pythias, at the Dutchess Lodge 860 in Wappinger Falls and Omni Lodge 719 in Brooklyn. He is also the past deputy grand chancellor for the 72nd District, which encompasses eight counties in the lower Hudson Valley. He serves his neighborhood as the financial secretary of the Whitehall Neighborhood Association in Albany.
Gronich graduated from the University at Albany with a degree in communications and journalism. He is a class councilor for his graduating class.
Gronich attends services at various Orthodox synagogues throughout the area.
“I’m excited about joining the staff of The Jewish World where I can continue the high-quality news reporting the newspaper is known for in the local Jewish community,” Gronich said. “The experiences that I have had over the past 30 years will hopefully be an asset to the leadership at the newspaper as we continue to communicate important events to readers.”
Gronich may be reached at 713-2130, ext. 308.
