What about security aid?
Editor:
When Ezra Waldman, in his letter to the editor published on July 22nd, asks President Obama and Senator Clinton to “Butt the Hell out” of Israel/Palestinian relations, is he suggesting that the United States also opt out of the $2.775 billion in security aid promised to Israel for 2010?

Editor:
Every week I look forward to receiving The Jewish World newspaper and am glad I made the commitment to subscribe. I’m frankly surprised that more people don’t support your efforts.
I find the local and national stories interesting and particularly enjoy when there are several points of view. I have used the expression “two Jews, three opinions” [...]
Advice to Obama: Butt out
Editor:
Pres. Obama and P.M. Netanyahu met at the White House for talks about the two state solution between the Israelis and the “Palestinians.”
Please note that I identify the “Palestinians” with italics. I truly do not know who these people are. Prior to 1967 they were Arabs and the Jews were the Palestinians. Now the Arabs [...]
American Jewish Congress to close doors: What the organization gave American Jews
By JEROME A. CHANES
NEW YORK CITY (Forward)–With the American Jewish Congress apparently closing its doors, there won’t be many mourners saying Kaddish. Instead, the prevailing communal sentiment will probably be: “We have too many agencies; one less will not matter.”
The serious financial problems that had plagued the AJCongress over recent decades became a mortal threat [...]
Chanukah stamps for 2010?
Editor:
This year’s Chanukah stamp is the 2009 one.
I was informed by the United States Postal Service that there will not be an automatic distribution of the stamp this year. If post offices have stock left over from 2009 they will sell them, however, if a post office does not have any left over, it up [...]
The truth and nothing but the truth!
By Attorney JACK KAPLOWITZ
In 1923, the famous Rabbi Meir Shapiro introduced the Daf Yomi concept—a daily 45 minutes Talmud study that puts us all on the same page!
Studying one page each day, participants complete the entire 2,711-page Talmud in 7-½ years. Scholars had always studied the Talmud intensively, but Daf Yomi’s “target audience” is lay [...]
Accentuate the positive!
By RABBI ISRAEL RUBIN
Capital Chabad
After visiting Rome…Rabbi Akiva and his colleagues went toward Jerusalem and saw a fox roaming the ruins in the Temple Mount Holy of Holies.
The sages cried, but Rabbi Akiva laughed.
“How can you laugh?” they asked him.
“Why do you cry?” he responded.
To which they answered, “How can’t we break down when we [...]
Demonization? Or just different views?
Editor:
I respond to a letter in The Jewish World, June 24, written by Jack Alexander and Gerry Magness, who had responded to my letter of May 27 regarding the Wiesel, Sarid, Jerusalem controversy. I confess surprise by the accusation of my having “strongly held views” that lead to “demonizing those” whom I disagree with.
There is [...]
Why did neighbors kill Jews in Jedwabne, Poland?
Editor:
Several atrocities occurred during WWII, but one of them was so barbaric that it stands out among the many.
Sixty-nine years ago in Jedwabne, Poland, on July 10, 1941, half of its inhabitants murdered the other half—some 1600 Jews—with knives, clubs, pitchforks, stones and fire while a German army detachment stood by offering “professional” advice. Heads [...]
