SCHENECTADY–The Congregation Gates of Heaven Sisterhood invites women of all ages to its fifth annual Women’s Passover Seder. The seder will be held at the temple, 852 Ashmore Ave., on Thursday, March 22, from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The members of the sisterhood’s Rosh Chodesh group with Rabbi Eleanor Pearlman have created a specific Haggadah for the event.
The meal is a vegetarian potluck and a $10 fee will be collected at the door. A portion of the $10 fee, and donations of amounts over $10, will be donated to USCRI Albany. USCRI is one of several refugee settlement agencies in the United States. The Albany branch works to help refugees from places like Syria, Burma, and Sudan to resettle in the Capital District.
Reservations are required by Friday, March 16, to firstname.lastname@example.org. A follow-up e-mail with directions on how to sign up for a vegetarian potluck dish will be sent to those responding.
Organizers report that women of all ages are encouraged to attend, babes and teenagers are welcome, but caution that this event is not for children who can’t sit for the program and dinner.
The congregation’s sisterhood Rosh Chodesh is a monthly observance of the beginning of the Jewish month. The group’s purpose, according to organizers is to provide a secure place for women to share, learn, and grow, and to help women of all ages and stages connect with the spiritual, feminine, and personal aspects of Judaism.
