Drew Katz, JCC Maccabi Games delegation head, has announced that the Albany and Schenectady Jewish Community Centers will send a joint delegation of athletes to the 2019 JCC Maccabi Games and Arts Fest in Detroit, Mich. in August. The JCC Maccabi Experience will begin Sunday, Aug. 4, with opening ceremonies in a local stadium with a parade of athletes and Munich 11 Tribute and continue through Friday, Aug. 9. The games are open to Jewish youth between the ages of 12 and 16. The arts fest is open to Jewish youth, ages 12 to 17.
The Centers will hold Maccabi open houses and informational meetings Sunday, Jan. 20, at 1 p.m. at the Schenectady J.C.C., 2565 Balltown Rd/. Schenectady and Sunday, Jan. 27, at 4:15 p.m. at the Albany J.C.C., 340 Whitehall Rd., Albany. Parents and their teens are welcome to attend either event.
During the August Maccabi week teens will compete or take part in arts fest workshops, and participate in the J.C.C .Cares mitzvah projects during the day. Evening social activities are also planned. Approximately 4,000 Jewish teens from the United States, Mexico, Canada, Israel and Europe will participate in the Detroit or Atlanta Maccabi Games this year. This will mark the 37th year of the games in the U.S.
