Dr. Ralph Nurnberger will discuss “Does “Hamilton” Get Hamilton Right? “on Sunday, May 19, at 7 p.m. at the Saratoga City Center in Saratoga Springs. The Jewish Federation of Northeastern New York will host the annual North Country event, open to the community, that will also include a catered dinner, and dessert reception.
Nurnberger’s presentation will analyze the accuracy of the musical, and how it deals with past and contemporary issues.
According to organizers, the show’s detailed presentation of the complicated politics and the concerns of the 18th century mirror similar contemporary issues in a way that helps theatre-goers to better understand the past as well as the present. They indicated that the show focuses on volatile partisan politics and such issues as race, gender, multiculturalism, immigration, and the foundations of our government.
Nurnberger, a former professor of history and international relations at Georgetown University and senior partner in a Washington, D.C. government relations firm, Nurnberger & Associates, has been a frequent lecturer in this area.
The event cost is $36 per person and reservations may be made online at https://www.jewishfedny.org/events/northcountryevent2019/, or by phone, 518-783-7800.
Those attending will have an opportunity to privately make a gift to support the Jewish community, according to the Jewish Federation organizers.
