Michaels announces Holocaust essay winners: Zoom award ceremony set

The local B’nai B’rith Holocaust Essay Contest judging panel has selected six winning essays and Robert Michaels, chairman, has announced this year’s winners.

High School winners:
First prize winner is Patrick Manella of the Loudonville Christian School. Sponsoring Teacher Michelle Nietfeld.

Second prize winner is Cassidy Tryon of the Loudonville Christian School. Sponsoring Teacher Michelle Nietfeld.

Third prize winner is Pallavi Datta of Niskayuna High School. Sponsoring Teacher James Edgar.

Middle School winners:
First prize winner is Grace Nowalk of the Canajoharie Middle School. Sponsoring Teacher Lori Schaffer.

Second prize winner is Madeline Kahn Ehrlich of Congregation Agudat Achim Hebrew School. Sponsoring Teacher Eric Ginsburg.

Third prize winner is Skye Keparutis of the Loudonville Christian School. Sponsoring Teacher Michelle Nietfeld.

Students wrote on the theme: Only 11 states currently require Holocaust education. Should all states require it to improve students’ appreciation of our ethnic and cultural diversity? What lessons of the Holocaust do you think might increase understanding and reduce intolerance?
