Rabbi Dennis S. Ross

The Jewish Publication Society (JPS) has announced the publication of A Year with Martin Buber: Wisdom from the Weekly Torah Portion by Rabbi Dennis S. Ross, an intentional interim rabbi in the greater New York City area and a former rabbi with Congregation Beth Emeth in Albany.

According to JPS, Ross demonstrates Buber’s roots in Jewish thought and explains the broader scope of Buber’s life and work. He quotes from the weekly Torah portion; draws lessons from Jewish commentators; and sets Buber’s related words in context with Buber’s life story, Chasidic tales and writings.

The book, part of the JPS Daily Inspiration Series, features Buber’s thoughts on 54 weekly Torah portions and 11 Jewish holidays.

Ross directs Concerned Clergy for Choice at Albany-based Planned Parenthood Empire State Acts, an independent non-partisan and non-profit organization. His previous books include God in Our Relationships: Spirituality between People from the Teachings of Martin Buber and All Politics Is Religious: Speaking Faith to the Media and Policy Makers. He has written for the New York Times, Boston Globe, Forward and other publications.
