SCHENECTADY–Congregation Gates of Heaven invites the public to a two-part introduction to the Shmaltz Brewing Company. A community beer tasting is slated for Saturday, March 14, at the temple, 852 Ashmore Ave., Schenectady from 4 to 6 p.m. The next day, March 15, a breakfast discussion with its founder Jeremy Cowan will be featured by the congregation’s brotherhood at its breakfast with a speaker program.
The free tasting, for those at least 21 years old, does not require a reservation, but organizers have asked that those planning to attend contact Kathy Laws at the temple at 518-374-8173 or email@example.com.
Started in 1996, Shmaltz Brewing is the only Jewish-themed beer company in the country, according to event organizers. Cowan will talk about the history of Shmaltz, and will review the Jewish themes behind the company’s beers at the Sunday breakfast.
The breakfast is also held at the temple and begins at 10 a.m. The fee for breakfast is $5 for non-brotherhood members. The presentation begins at 10:30 a.m., and is free.
