ALBANY – The New York Folklore group has slated the third installment of its showcase of the region’s diverse folk music traditions. A focus on Jewish music is set for Sunday, May 7, at the Linda, WAMC’s performing arts studio, 339 Central Ave. Albany. The concert will be from 3-5 p.m.
The Kleiner Klezmer Orchestra and violinist Joshua Sussman will be featured.
The klezmer orchestra, created in the 1980s, includes David Bates (accordion) Dave Ray (violin), Dave Lambert (clarinet), Steve Lambert (trumpet) and Bailey Quinn (vocalist). Klezmer incorporates Yiddish folk music, folk dance tunes, and “folklorized” music of Yiddish theater.
Sussman is an Albany-based violinist. He has played the violin since he was five years old. In addition to formal musical training at Hartt School, he is also a player of Chasidic folk tunes that he learned through participation in fabrengans while attending yeshiva.
This event will include a 20-minute intermission.
