SCHENECTADY – The Schenectady Jewish Community Center (SJCC), 2565 Balltown Rd., second offering in its monthly film festival will be “Return to Auschwitz: The Survival of Vladimir Munk” (2021) available to view virtually Wednesday, Oct. 19 – Sunday, Oct. 23.
The 56-minute documentary is about how the then 95-year-old Vladimir Munk, a retired SUNY Plattsburgh professor and Holocaust survivor revisits the concentration camp. The film also traces Munk’s early life in Czechoslovakia, imprisonment in other concentration camps, his career post World War II as a microbiologist in Czechoslovakia and his immigration to the U.S. following the Russian and Eastern Bloc invasion of 1968. Munk was one of 120 survivors of the camp in a survivors’ delegation who attended the event. The survivors walked the camp where they had been imprisoned.
Film writer, producer Julie Canepa and a guest is set for a Sunday, Oct. 23 live Zoom discussion at 7:30 p.m.
