SCHENECTADY–Congregation Beth Israel will honor the late Dr. Abraham (Al) Finkel, at a luncheon open to the community, following services on Shabbat /Shavuot, May 27, at the synagogue, 2195 Eastern Pkwy., Schenectady.
The board of trustees has indicated that Finkel, who died 10 months ago, had been in many ways the center of the congregation. He was the shul’s gabbai, spiritual leader, and someone the congregation depended on and looked up to.
Two bima covers will be presented to Finkel’s wife, Lynn. One cover will be used at regular Shabbat and holiday services. The other, a white cover, will be used on the High Holidays. Both covers are inscribed with the words “In memory of our beloved gabbai, Dr. Al Finkel.”
There will be no charge for the luncheon, however, reservations are required. Reservations may be made by contacting Debbie Gatoff at [email protected] or 518-374-0685.
