SARATOGA SPRINGS–Saratoga Jewish Community Arts will offer online access to registrants to view the documentary film “Encounter Point ” and host a panel discussion of the film on Zoom, Nov. 12 at 7 p.m. By arrangement with the film’s producer and distributor, SJCA will offer online access in advance of the panel discussion.
“Encounter Point ” tells the story of an Israeli settler, a convicted Palestinian fighter, a bereaved Israeli mother, and a wounded Palestinian ex-prisoner who sacrifice their safety, public standing, communities, and homes to press for a grassroots movement for nonviolence and peace. The film explores what drives these and thousands of other like-minded civilians to overcome anger and grief to work for peace. It implicitly asks why, with the world’s cameras focused on this conflict, most of these courageous and vital efforts are not known.
“Encounter Point ” is directed by Ronit Avni and Julia Bacha and produced by Just Vision, a nonprofit organization that followed a selection of families and conducted hundreds of preliminary interviews and two years of research in making the film.
According to organizers, the film invites viewers to witness the nuanced realities of those who labor for healing and understanding.
“By arguing that Israel’s presence in the disputed land is the principal roadblock to peace,” says Phyllis Wang, coordinator of SJCA, “the film ignores the fact that Palestinians’ rejection of the Jewish presence in the land and their refusal to accept the right for a Jewish state to exist lie at the core of the conflict.”
