SARATOGA SPRINGS–Saratoga Jewish Community Arts will host the author, cartoonist, educator and lecturer Ken Krimstein, at Skidmore College on Tuesday, Nov. 12, at 7 p.m. The program is set for Emerson Auditorium, inside Palamountain Hall. The program will also be available on Zoom for those who register in advance.
Krimstein will discuss his most recent graphic novel, Einstein in Kafkaland: How Albert Fell Down the Rabbit Hole and Came Up with the Universe (2024). His previous books include Kvetch as Kvetch Can: Jewish Cartoons (2010); The Three Escapes of Hannah Arendt (2018); and When I Grow Up: Lost Autobiographies of Six Yiddish Teenagers (2021).
Einstein in Kafkaland is a story that considers both Kafka and Einstein when both lived in Prague from 1911-1912. What happens over the course of this year in Prague is the question driving Krimstein’s novel.
The Jewish Book Council writes, “The trajectory of the two men’s lives wove together in uncanny ways — as did their shared desire to tackle the world’s biggest questions in Europe’s strangest city. Tying the literary, scientific, and geographic centers of the world together for a single year, Einstein in Kafkaland tells an untold story of two of the modern era’s defining figures, each brought to vivid life with stunning artwork in Krimstein’s signature style, as they battle God for truth in a cosmic universe against the backdrop of Prague’s intricacies and mysteries.”
Krimstein will autograph copies of Einstein in Kafkaland, which will be available for purchase at the program.
A $10 admission/donation is requested at the door or, for Zoom participants, by mail to Temple Sinai, 509 Broadway, Saratoga Springs, N.Y. 12866.
