The Chatham Synagogue congregation and Congregation Anshe Emeth of Hudson have slated a joint program for Wednesday, November 12, at 7 p.m. at the Chatham synagogue, 1536 Co Rd. 28, Valatie.
“Roots of Peace: A Discussion About Achieving Understanding Between Palestinians and Israelis” will be the theme of Rabbi Hanan Schlesinger and Khaled Abu Awwad and they will discuss how to navigate the current situation in Israel and Gaza and find a way to foster a movement of understanding, nonviolence, and transformation among Israelis and Palestinians.
Both Schlesinger and Khaled Awwad are associated with Roots/Shorashim/Judir, a network of Israelis and Palestinians who have come to see each other as the partners needed to make the change that can end their conflict. Based on mutual recognition of each other’s connection to the land, the organization works to develop understanding and solidarity despite ideological differences.
