The Philadelphia Orchestra at Saratoga Performing Arts Center played Clara Schumann’s March in E-flat major, Mendelssohn’s Piano Concerto No. 1, and Schubert’s 9th Symphony, Thursday, Aug. 3. The orchestra is at SPAC Wednesdays through Saturdays through Aug. 19.
It was wonderful to hear the Schubert symphony crescendos ebbing and flowing as lightning flashed and flickered and thunder rolled and boomed in the background. One nine-year-old, who was splitting his attention between the symphony and creating a cobblestone generator in Minecraft, said he loved the music.
