ROTTERDAM–Schenectady Post 106 members participated in the Hometown Heroes event recognizing Veterans on Sunday, May 5, at the Rotterdam Elks Club, organized by Patriot Hills, a New York not-for-profit group that provides support to returning veterans and their families.

The volunteers met with high school students from Mohonasen High School in Schenectady who belong to the local “Do Something Club.” The students’ goal was to interview local veterans. Students asked Post 106 Commander Gene Altman about the mission and programs of the Jewish War Veterans.

The Do Something Club worked on their volunteer credit hours for their Regents degrees. Their stated goal is to create a video for PatriotHills.org to share the stories of the military veterans.

Altman said that there were various military, scouting and commercial organizations with exhibits for the estimated 200 attendees.
