The Philadelphia Orchestra began its 3-week residency at Saratoga Performing Arts Center Wednesday, Aug. 2. They’ll play there Wednesdays through Saturdays through Aug. 19.
The opening program was all Tchaikovsky, including the 1812 Overture, with cannon fire.
Jewish World publisher James Clevenson commented, “We can learn from the artistry, the discipline, the effort required by these musicians to master these deep works. There’s an analogy to the kind of attention required by religious people to hone their souls, to delete the egot so that another voice can enter and be transmitted.”
