Berith Sholom Reform Congregation where the annual  Founders’ Day Shabbat Service will be held on March 27.

This year’s Founders’ Day Shabbat Service will be held at Berith Sholom Reform Congregation, 167 3rd St., Troy. The service on Friday, March 27, will begin at 7:30 p.m. and congregants and clergy from the six local Reform Movement congregations are expected to attend. The community is invited to the service and dinner.

Founders’ Day honors the memories of Rabbis Isaac Mayer Wise and Stephen S. Wise Founders of Reform Judaism in America. The Reform movement’s founder — Isaac Mayer Wise— arrived in the United States in 1846 and took a pulpit in Albany at what would become the current Congregation Beth Emeth. Later he would establish the Union of American Hebrew Congregations. Rabbi Stephen S. Wise was a rights activist and Zionist Reform rabbi in the early part of the 20th century.

The guest speaker will be Efraim Yudewitz, director of URJ Crane Lake Camp, and music will be provided by the Berith Sholom Choir.
