ALBANY – The Shalom Food Pantry announced that its annual “Battle of the BBQs” has been scheduled for Sunday, July 30, from 4-6 p.m. The barbecue contest, a fund-raiser for the pantry, will be held at the Albany Jewish Community Center, 340 Whitehall Rd., Albany. The Shalom Food Pantry provides healthy food packages to financially struggling individuals and families throughout the Capital Region. The food pantry provides over 2,300 meals worth of groceries every month.

“This sixth annual friendly competition aims to bring the community together, build awareness, and raise funds for the Shalom Food Pantry,” said Chanie Simon, co-director of the Shalom Food Pantry. “With this event, we look forward to bringing awareness to this great cause, ” she added.

Teams representing local Jewish organizations will compete and non-competitors attending help judge the teams too. Attendees will have an opportunity to sample each of the teams’ items and also eat sides, which will include vegetarian options. There will also be activities for children and live music performed by Band of Gold. Those attending can let their voices be heard and their votes be counted towards the People’s Choice award.

The committee planning the competition consists of Jennifer Wind, Lianne Pinchuk Wladis, Sherry Ashery, Lauren Iselin, and Seri Ference.

Admission will be $25 with a reservation prior to July 25. After the 25th, admission is $30, $10 per child.
